Church Conversion in Diggle near Oldham | Principal Contractor for Structural & conversion Works

Located in Diggle near Oldham, Wrigley Mill is a former Methodist building that has been successfully transformed by MAP Building Contractors into a high-quality commercial facility comprising an early years nursery and community space.
 

Acting as principal contractor, MAP delivered a full conversion of the disused structure into a modern, functional environment, incorporating multiple classrooms, supporting facilities, and a dedicated first floor community space.
 

The project required extensive structural remediation and alteration works. The existing ground floor timber joists were found to be severely deteriorated and were fully replaced, while the first floor structure was strengthened throughout.

A cantilevered floor structure was constructed to accommodate a new staff room and kitchen area, maximising usable space within the building footprint.
 

Significant structural alterations were also undertaken to form new door openings, install additional windows, and reconfigure the internal layout to suit the nursery’s operational requirements.
 

Externally, the building underwent a full façade upgrade, including sandblasting of the existing stonework and the installation of new aluminium windows and doors, carefully selected to complement the refurbished exterior and enhance the building’s overall appearance.
 

Internally, MAP delivered a complete fit-out, including full rewire, new plumbing systems, safety flooring, suspended ceilings, decoration, and the installation of all kitchen and bathroom facilities.
 

The external areas were also refurbished to create a safe and engaging outdoor environment for children, aligning with early years requirements. To the first floor, the community space was further enhanced through the addition of Velux rooflights, introducing natural light and improving the usability of the space.
